I would like to introduce myself. My name is Russell and I first become interested in radio as a short wave listener in 1959 whilst listening to my parents broadcast receiver which had short wave on it.. In 1961 I became a member of the Amateur Radio Club of Nottingham and took part in many of the club events including many memorable field days which were very popular at that time, until 1966 when I enlisted in the Royal Corps of Signals.

I joined the Royal Signals Amateur Radio Society in 1966 as a shortwave listener member. I served until 1978 but kept up my interest as a shortwave listener throughout my service mainly listening to broadcast stations, a particular interest was DXing South American Stations on the lower frequency broadcast bands.

I rejoined ARCON in 1976 and after a few years joined the South Notts Amateur Radio Club when I moved to a new QTH. In 1989 I took the RAE and was allocated the call G7EYY. I held this call until December 1990 when I passed the Morse test as became G0OKD.

In 1994 we moved to South Normanton in Derbyshire where I became a member of South Normanton Alfreton and District Amateur Radio Club (SNADARC) followed a long climb down the slippery pole from a junior member of the committee to the giddy depths of chairman and lead instructor.

Following a problem with my health last year I was honoured to be offered the post of president of the club of which I am also a honorary life member.

Personal circumstances lead to me having to stand down from a previous appointment as DRM but I am happy to say that the situation is now much improved and it is with great pleasure that I am able, once again, to offer my services to the Society and amateur radio in general, particularly in the fields of education and training work I thoroughly enjoy and get much satisfaction from.
