My interest in amateur radio started at Imperial College London in the early seventies learning how to use the radio as G5YC, (club callsign). Then I worked in Australia, Adelaide and Sydney for 6 years obtaining a limited licence in 1975 but never made the Morse test. I returned to UK in 1980 working in Defence Electronics/Software for 26 years specialising in EW and my amateur activities took a back seat. As my career changed from engineering to management I took a posting back in Australia and operated from above Sydney Harbour as VK2JAV becoming passionate about the hobby once more. I retired early in 2006 returned to the UK as M0JAV where I became a lead trainer and secretary for HARES in Hinckley. My main interest is in experimentation particularly with antennas and configurations for mobile/portable operation for DX. Just joined WAB and aim to make more local contacts in the coming months.
I’m here to help members in Leicestershire and Rutland get the most out of their hobby and the RSGB and hoping to learn a lot from you all. I would like to see more liaisons between local clubs particularly in training, field days and special event stations so we can attract new people to the hobby.
Regards and 73 de
John Rogers (M0JAV & VK2JAV)
